Permudah pembelajaran al-Quran

"Jika belajar melalui telefon, kita mungkin perlu membayar bil telefon sehingga ratusan ringgit sebulan.

Carrots Used to Be Purple Before the 17th Century

Multi-colored carrots

Today I found out, before the 17th century, almost all carrots cultivated were purple. The modern day orange carrot wasn’t cultivated until Dutch growers in the late 16th century took mutant strains of the purple carrot, including yellow and white carrots and gradually developed them into the sweet, plump, orange variety we have today.

Before this, pretty much all carrots were purple with mutated versions occasionally popping up including the yellow and white carrots. These however were rarely cultivated and lacked the purple pigment anthocyanin, which gave carrots back then their distinctive purple color.

It is thought that the modern day orange carrot was developed by crossing the mutated yellow and white rooted carrots as well as varieties of wild carrots, which are quite distinct from cultivated carrots.

Some think that the reason the orange carrot became so popular in the Netherlands was in tribute to the emblem of the House of Orange and the struggle for Dutch independence. This could be, but it also might just be that the orange carrots that the Dutch developed were sweeter tasting and more fleshy than their purple counterparts, thus providing more food per plant and being better tasting.

  • It is actually possible to turn your skin a shade of orange by massively over consuming orange carrots.
  • Orange carrots get their bright orange color from beta-carotene. Beta-carotene metabolizes in the human gut from bile salts into Vitamin A.
  • The origins of the cultivated carrot is rooted in the purple carrot in the region around modern day Afghanistan.
  • When cultivation of the garden style orange carrot lapses for a few generations, the carrots revert back to their ancestral carrot types, which are very different from the current garden variety.
  • In ancient times, the root part of the carrot plant that we eat today was not typically used. The carrot plant however was highly valued due to the medicinal value of its seeds and leaves. For instance, Mithridates VI, King of Pontius (around 100BC) had a recipe for counteracting certain poisons with the principle ingredient being carrot seeds. It has since been proven that this concoction actually works.
  • The Romans believed carrots and their seeds were aphrodisiacs. As such, carrots were a common plant found in Roman gardens. After the fall of Rome however, carrot cultivation in Europe more or less stopped until around the 10th century when Arabs reintroduced them to Europe.
  • British gunners in WWII were able to locate and shoot down German planes at night due to the invention of radar, which the Germans knew nothing about. To cover up the invention and extreme effectiveness of radar, the British spread about an urban legend that said that they massively increased the night vision of their pilots by having them consume large amounts of carrots. This lie not only convinced the Germans, but also had a bonus effect of causing many British people to start planting their own vegetable gardens, including planting carrots. This urban legend has persisted even to this day.
  • The largest carrot every grown was 19 pounds; grown by John Evans in 1998 in Palmer, Alaska.
  • The Vegetable Improvement Center at Texas A&M recently developed a purple-skinned, orange fleshed carrot called the Beta Sweet. This carrot is specialized to include substances that prevent cancer. It also has extremely high beta-carotene content.
  • Almost one third of all carrots distributed throughout the world come from China, which is the largest distributor of carrots in the world. Following them on gross production is Russia and then the United States.
  • Although the orange carrot was not cultivated before the 16th and 17th centuries, there is a reference in a Byzantine manuscript around 512AD which depicts an orange rooted carrot, suggesting that at least this mutant variety of carrot could be found at this time.

DeFan, the network and technology company also offers cash gifts to successfully paired couples, as well as a bigangpow for their weddings.

The company did not announce the sum but said it would be "a big surprise".

When announcing the new policy on Tuesday, DeFan marketing director Gao Jie said the move was to raise the spirit among employees.

The policy is supported by over 90% of the workers but the remaining ones are worried that some workers might spend too much time courting their colleagues instead of doing work.

DeFan, a two-year old company, is involved in the development of game software and is still at the developing stage.

As such, its workers have to spend most of their time in the workplace and some even sleep therre. One director has a folding bed in his office.

"I have not been home for a few days. Luckily my boyfriend is overseas, otherwise, we would have broken-up long time before," worker Luo Jiayue told reporter.

Another worker said he had never had a free weekend since joining the company last year.

Due to the busy workload, some 80% of the 60-odd employees, aged below 30, are still single.

Marketing director Gao is the only married woman in the company.

"I realised the problem after the first pair was bonded recently," she said.

"Love inspires a person and raises his or her efficiency. Thus, I encourage workers to find their other half within the company. This is because they lack social activities due to the work."

She said the company would also give three-days leave to those whose relationships had broken-up.

"If they are in an emotional stage, they can not perform well. I would rather grant them the leave and let them rest well before coming back to the 'war zone'," she said.

A Chinese freshman brought 14 pieces of luggage including a four-year supply of toilet paper to his university.

Zheng Yu, 19, turned up at the Wuhan University of Science and Technology in Hubei province, China, on Friday.

The Electronic Information Engineering freshie from Yichang - about 282km from the university - was accompanied by his 83-year-old grandmother, parents, uncle and aunt.

When they arrived, the family shocked the others with the amount of luggage they removed from their car.

Zheng brought along 14 boxes including apples, milk, toilet paper, clothing, medicine and health care products.

Ji Nan, a senior sent to help the freshman, said he had to seek the help of another nine volunteers to carry all the boxes.

"I was thinking of helping him alone as I thought a man should have few things but I was shocked to see the number of boxes unloaded from the car.

"Zheng told me one of the boxes contained only toilet paper which was enough for his four years at the university."

Another volunteer Li Hu said Zheng had a box of apples, a box of milk cartons, several boxes of clothing for four seasons and seven towels, a box of medicine, a box of health care products and a fan.

But Zheng's mother was worried that the items she packed for her son were not enough.

"I'm afraid that the things won't last till he graduates.

"My son has been very weak since he was small, I'm worried that he cannot adapt to hostel life."

Kesan Syaitan atas Pembaca Pengamal AlQuran

Saat Anda membwa Al-Quran, syaitan biasa-biasa saja.. tengok je...
Saat Anda membukanya, syaitan mulai curiga.
Saat Anda membacanya, ia resah dan gelisah.

1Malaysia e-mail accounts for Malaysians over 18

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians aged 18 and above will be assigned an e-mail account each to receive statements, bills and notices from the Government.

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who announced this yesterday, said the 1MY E-mail initiative would allow “direct and secure” communication between citizens and the Government while enhancing the delivery of government services to consumers and businesses alike.

Tricubes Bhd is collaborating with Microsoft to develop the 1Malaysia E-mail project.

The company will spearhead the private RM50mil investment that also includes the development of a web portal as a one-stop centre for government services providing value-added services such as social networking, checking of bills online and payments.

Tricubes chief executive officer Khairun Zainal Mokhtar said the company was still conducting stress tests for the website.

“Hopefully, we can get it ready by July,” he told a press conference at the fifth progress update of the Economic Transformation Programme here yesterday.

Khairun said the portal was different from the MyEG website, which focused on the payment of bills and summonses, as it would allow interaction between people and the Government.

The Performance Management and Delivery Unit, responding to queries said the 1Malaysia E-mail would not be made compulsory.

The hottest chilli in the world grown in Cumbria

Chilli farmer Gerald Fowler has officially grown the hottest chilli in the world – in a greenhouse in Cumbria.

Hot stuff: Gerald Fowler's chilli is painful to eat
Hot stuff: Gerald Fowler's chilli is painful to eat (Cascade)

Gerald Fowler, a full-time chilli farmer for five years, crossed three of the hottest varieties to produce the fiercest pods known to man.

His Naga Viper rates an astonishing 1,359,000 on the Scoville scale, which measures heat by the presence of the chemical compound capsaicin.

Experts at Warwick University tested the chilli and the Guinness Book of World Records approached Gerald to include it their 2012 edition as the world's hottest.

‘When they grow chilli in India or the Caribbean they're used to the heat and the drought. When they're grown over here I think they fight back against the harsher climate and produce even more heat,’ said Gerald.

He sells the chilli as a sauce but says he's getting most interest from growers keen to get their hands on the seeds.

"It's painful to eat," said Gerald, 52, who runs the Chilli Pepper Company, in Cark-in-Cartmel.

‘It's hot enough to strip paint.’

Carrying the brand name Salamfone, the pre-paid mobile service was launched by YB Mejar Jeneral Datuk Seri Jamil Khir bin Haji Baharom [B] at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today in conjunction with the World Halal Research 2011 Summit held from 6-7 April.

“Salamfone is more than just a product. Our value proposition is to share the values of Islam, instil and inspire them towards a wholesome Muslim lifestyle in every way. In elaborating the bigger picture of its Shariah-compliancy, Kamshul added, “Salamfone is serious about being Shariah Compliant. We don’t just ‘think’ it – we act it. That is why we make it point to ensure our business models, value-added investments and business partnerships are all halal. Salamfone has also established working relationships with non-traditional channels such corporate organisations, non-governmental organisations, cooperatives and multilevel companies.

Salamfone’s target market is Malaysian Muslims from all walks of life who hold strong beliefs in their obligations to Islam. This group is passionate about their God-given duty to help the community they live in and are looking for avenues to strengthen their faith. A secondary group is Muslim visitors from the Middle East to Malaysia who are looking to use a Shariah Compliant mobile service during their stay in the country.

With the local demographic in mind, the four initial key markets that Salamfone will be aggressively marketed in are Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu and Kelantan as these locations have the highest concentration of Muslim residents in Malaysia. However there is still a strong appeal for Salamfone across the nation.

Based on the soft launches held on 29 March in Terengganu, 2 April in Kelantan and 4 April in Kedah, the interest in Salamfone is positively encouraging with distributors eagerly snapping up stocks of SIM cards with re-orders already being processed.

Should the demand for Salamfone in Malaysia prove encouraging, the company is looking to expand its business regionally. Malaysia was chosen as the company’s premier testing ground for its business model as the Malaysian government is fully supportive of the product and the country has a good reputation for Shariah-compliancy and business transparency.

Canning the sacrificial meat

By Zakiah Koya, The Sun

Wan Rusli shows the canned sacrificial meat.

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 17, 2010): Disaster relief NGO Muslim Aid Asia (MAA) has taken the concept of sacrificial meat to another level by canning and shipping them worldwide. This novel idea ensures that there is no wastage and that the 'daging korban' (sacrificial meat), reaches those who really need it.

Canned 'daging korban' was initially frowned upon by many when it was mooted here, resulting in only 100 sheep being slaughtered for canning in the first year of operation in 2004.

But slowly, there has been growing acceptance of the practice, and now MAA – the first relief agency to can sacrificial meat in Malaysia – slaughters 1,300 sheep for the Hari Raya Haji festival alone to be distributed all over the world.

The relief agency is overseen by the Muslim Aid Malaysia Humanitarian Foundation (Yayasan Kemanusiaan Muslim).

Foundation director Wan Rusli Wan Muda said he first stumbled upon the idea by Muslim Aid Australia while on a quest to sacrifice animals during a Hari Raya Haji celebration.

“According to the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), there is no religious barring of canning sacrificial meat and the slaughtering done by the Australian Muslim Aid is endorsed by Jakim and the Islamic authorities of Australia,” said Wan Rusli.

However, the concept was slow to catch on here.

“When I first introduced canning, the locals ‘needed’ to see the blood splatter and the meat in plastic bags. I also had to convince them it is all right in Islam and that Jakim had given its ‘okay.’ As such we decided to start with the Klang Valley,” he explained.

To sell the idea, MAA, which is actively involved in raising funds for canning and shipping sacrificial meat, made comparisons between the conventional and modern method.

“When we do the sacrifice during Hari Raya Haji, we divide it into three parts – one part for the poor, one part for the neighbours and one part for ourselves. But in the context of sacrifice, it is better to give all to the needy,” said Wan Rusli.

Another plus point is the shelf life of the sacrificial meat. The canned meat can last three years, versus one to two months in a freezer for freshly slaughtered meat.

“We can send it (canned meat) to any part of the world where there are really needy people who deserve the meat,” added Wan Rusli.

Besides that, the MAA’s method also helps agrarian nations such as Sri Lanka and Indonesia where the animals are bought from farmers for the 'korban' (sacrifice), boosting the village economies at the same time.

Wan Rusli said the sheep are slaughtered in Islamically certified abattoirs in Australia and then shipped here where the meat is canned by Pertima, a Terengganu state-owned company.

“The interested party only has to pay us RM380 for one sheep and this includes the cost of slaughtering, shipping, canning and transporting,” said Wan Rusli.

MAA currently takes sheep from Australia as “we do not have enough sheep from the breeders here.

“None of the local farmers can supply that much – we also do not have the facilities of big abattoirs.

“It takes only four days to can all the meat in Australia but here, it takes two months. If we have such facilities, it would be helpful in cases of disasters for instant food aid in cans,” he explained.

MAA sends the meat prepared according to the local conditions – such as mutton in curry to Pakistan and mutton in brine to Iraq. For Palestine, the meat is boneless according to security rules to get past Israeli authorities.

Besides MAA, there are three other fundraising offices in London, Munich and Sydney, and there are 18 site offices all over the world.

In places where there are no site offices, MAA works with the local NGOs there.

“Those who donate to us can also check the website and with us to make sure that we have fulfilled their duty.

“If they do have problems with the shipment, the cans are given to other needy people,” said Wan Rusli.

Besides canning sacrificial meat during Hari Raya Haji, the director said that the foundation also has Fast to Feed programmes during the fasting month in Ramadan where the needy people in poorer countries are fed at least a vitamin enriched meal a day.

“Our targets are deserving causes within Southeast Asia and the Far East.”

Being based in Malaysia, we are able to maintain close contract with an extensive network of local NGOs and local relief agencies,” said Wan Rusli. -- theSun

We just do not have the needed facilities to prepare the sacrificial meat on such a large scale.

Something About Mecca's New Look

By lufkin
Here's some infographic on The Abraj Al-Bait Towers, also known as the Mecca Royal Clock Hotel Tower.

The hotel will have:

-Five "Royal" floors and two "Golden" floors (floor made from real gold)
-24-hour butler service
-Segregated gym
-Beauty parlour
-Grooming salons and spa
-Chocolate room where chefs will prepare bespoke pralines and truffles.

WAIT.. SERIOUSLY?!

The pilgrimage to Mecca traditionally see Muslims travelling to the holy site, FORGOING WORLDLY POSESSIONS, thoughts and activities in order to focus on their faith. It is the fifth pillar of Islam, a religious duty that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Muslim WHO CAN AFFORD TO DO SO..

So yes, what the f*** is that hotel for? What will the world’s largest clock tower do to humanity? Isn't Hajj meant to involve hardship, struggle and sacrifice? And yet why is there a beauty parlour & spa at Mecca?

Thanks to those f**king Sheikh we can say goodbye to cheaper Hajj, 10 star hotel just near the Kaba will only raise the cost of pilgrimage. The tower hotel is expected to open on the end of this years, and now is almost 90% completed..

Saudi is running out of oil so now they want to explore "religious tourism"?
