A Chinese freshman brought 14 pieces of luggage including a four-year supply of toilet paper to his university.

Zheng Yu, 19, turned up at the Wuhan University of Science and Technology in Hubei province, China, on Friday.

The Electronic Information Engineering freshie from Yichang - about 282km from the university - was accompanied by his 83-year-old grandmother, parents, uncle and aunt.

When they arrived, the family shocked the others with the amount of luggage they removed from their car.

Zheng brought along 14 boxes including apples, milk, toilet paper, clothing, medicine and health care products.

Ji Nan, a senior sent to help the freshman, said he had to seek the help of another nine volunteers to carry all the boxes.

"I was thinking of helping him alone as I thought a man should have few things but I was shocked to see the number of boxes unloaded from the car.

"Zheng told me one of the boxes contained only toilet paper which was enough for his four years at the university."

Another volunteer Li Hu said Zheng had a box of apples, a box of milk cartons, several boxes of clothing for four seasons and seven towels, a box of medicine, a box of health care products and a fan.

But Zheng's mother was worried that the items she packed for her son were not enough.

"I'm afraid that the things won't last till he graduates.

"My son has been very weak since he was small, I'm worried that he cannot adapt to hostel life."
